Chapter 1:: What is Salem's Square?

There is a place where all worlds, known and unknown, seen and unseen, converge into a single point in space and time. In the place, Salem's Square simply... is. Acting as a living breathing entity, the city casts its own ominous shadow and creates its own terrible beauty.

It is a city of lost memories. Upon coming here, citizens of Salem's Square find themselves forgetting life before. They find it difficult to recall how they even arrived in the first place. And then, many people simply... vanish.

By day, Salem's Square is the same as any city. People go to work, attend social functions, shop and move. Children go to local schools, run through parks and yards, and play. Husbands and wives fight, friends and neighbors exchange jokes and news over their fences. Everything is peaceful and normal.

But when night falls, the city does far more than just grow dark.

Salem's Square sits on the Nexus of Worlds and holds open thousands of doorways, connecting these worlds to empty streets and dark alleys. All manner of things come through these places, creatures great and small. Many of these beings are benign, only taking to the shadows because they cannot blend among the rest of the crowd. Others are not as safe. Dark creatures from these many worlds call the city home and the night is their play place.

The structure of the city changes almost as constantly as her citizenry. Favorite shops and retaurants can simply vanish over night. Whole city blocks will change location, and if the populous notices any of it, not many will speak of it. Those who've dwelled here for a while have grown accustomed to the strange changes.

Despite the darker, stranger aspects, Salem's Square is a city full of things to see and do. Just watch where you end up going.
